At Discover Healing, we’re focused on lending a helping hand during the current world pandemic known as COVID-19 or the novel coronavirus. Social Distancing to Slow the Spread of a Virus like COVID-19 is a Powerful Tool!
Even without a vaccine or fool-proof plan to completely stop the spread of Covid-19, social distancing can be really effective. When we follow the guidelines and recommendations for social distancing, each of us can positively impact on the spread of the Coronavirus. Person-to-person transmission is dramatically slowed, which in turn has a positive impact on our hospitals and care givers. When the spread of the virus is slowed down, care centers have fewer cases to treat. Hospitals see less overflow, staff members and supplies are less overwhelmed.

With social distances and many businesses and travel industries moving a bit slower these days, air pollution is settling down. In an article titled Airborne Nitrogen Dioxide Plummets Over China by Kasha Patel at NASA, we can see another upside to quarantines in China.
“…pollution monitoring satellites have detected significant decreases in nitrogen dioxide (NO2) over China. There is evidence that the change is at least partly related to the economic slowdown following the outbreak of coronavirus…By January 23, 2020, Chinese authorities had shut down transportation going into and out of Wuhan, as well as local businesses…It was the first of several quarantines set up in the country and around the world.”

“According to NASA scientists, the reduction in NO2 pollution was first apparent near Wuhan, but eventually spread across the country. Millions of people have been quarantined in one of the largest such actions in human history… “This is the first time I have seen such a dramatic drop-off over such a wide area for a specific event,” said Fei Liu, an air quality researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.”

With the presence of this pandemic and recommendations for social distancing, we’re being given a unique opportunity to turn down the noise of the world and embrace the quiet. With this opportunity, we can benefit greatly from tuning into our spirits, spending time with our thoughts, enjoying our quiet homes and outdoors, and more.
Silence is good for overall physical health and well-being. During times when outside sources are turned down and we have space to dig into ourselves, we find opportunities for more creativity, more awareness of self and our environment, deeper reflection, and our sense of being.
