Self-esteem refers to a person’s overall sense of personal value. In other words, how much you appreciate and like yourself! When our emotions are weighing us down, it can be hard to feel confident and proud of who we are. That’s why energy healing can help build self-esteem, release negative emotions, and focus our attention on all the wonderful things we have to offer instead.

Having healthy self-esteem is also a predictor of other positive behaviors. For example, people with higher self-esteem tend to take better care of themselves physically and emotionally and are more likely to pursue their dreams and aspirations. So, start building your confidence and self-love with the 10 ways to build self-esteem below!

What is Low Self-Esteem?

How a person feels about themselves impacts every aspect of their lives. Individuals with low self-esteem usually think poorly of themselves, overlook their strengths, and focus on the negative. Those that suffer from low self-esteem may not feel confident, may experience anxiety, and may criticize themselves. Alternatively, those who believe in themselves and hold themselves in high esteem are more likely to be confident, assured, kinder to themselves, and believe in their own abilities.

10 Ways to Boost Self-Esteem and Develop Confidence

At the root of low self-esteem are the beliefs and opinions held about oneself. These can come from traumatic experiences that happen early in life, trapped emotions, a lack of warmth and love, disappointing others, and more. Because our own opinions and beliefs are the central causes of low self-esteem, those are things that can be worked on and improved! With inner work, self-reflection, and emotional healing, negative opinions and stories can be rewritten!

1. Build a relationship with yourself

Having a good relationship with yourself is an important part of self-esteem! You are your most important relationship in life. The way you treat yourself sets the foundation for how you treat others, and how you interact with the world around you. Research on self-image has shown that people who have a more compassionate relationship with themselves, are more able to be compassionate with others.

Positive self-talk is a great way to begin practicing more compassion with yourself. Self-talk is your inner voice, which is almost always chattering away inside your mind. This inner commentary can have a huge impact on how you feel about yourself and the world around you. Pay attention to your thoughts, and aim to speak to yourself in kinder, gentler ways.

2. Focus on what you can change

Focusing on things you can change, rather than lamenting things you have no control over, is another way to build self-esteem and heal emotionally. As the Serenity Prayer says, “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” While you can’t control everything in your life, you can control your choices and the way you show up for yourself.

Set attainable goals that you have the power to achieve, and create habits and routines that support those goals! Perhaps make it part of your weekly routine to meditate, take walks outdoors, set time aside to work towards your personal career aspirations, or whatever else will help you move forward towards the things you want in your life.

3. Enjoy the journey

Once you’ve set goals that you’d like to achieve, it can be helpful to focus less on the outcome, and more on how you arrive at it! Those who are emotionally healthy often have what’s called a “growth mindset” meaning that they’re focused on how they can learn and evolve from any given situation. Those with a “growth mindset” thrive on being challenged and see failures as a way to learn and grow, instead of evidence of incompetence. This is a healthy mindset that takes the pressure off of your achievements and allows you to enjoy the journey instead.

As you work towards your goals, take time to celebrate your successes too (no matter how small)! Congratulate yourself on a job well done, and take time to appreciate your abilities. The more you celebrate yourself, the more your confidence will grow.

4. Surround yourself with support

If the people in your life frequently say negative things about you or hold you in low regard, it can be really challenging to overcome those ideas about yourself. One great way to build self-esteem and heal emotionally is to spend time with positive, supportive people! Take some time and space away from people who only have negative things to say about you, and focus your time and energy on those who celebrate you and your accomplishments instead. You’ll quickly see what a positive impact this small shift can have on your life!

5. Release past hurt with emotional healing

No matter how much you progress in self-confidence, one thing that can hold you back is past hurt and trapped emotions. Emotional healing through processes such as the Emotion Code® can facilitate physical and emotional balance so you can achieve higher self-confidence! Energy healing has been used for thousands of years to unlock the body’s natural ability to correct misalignments and imbalances that may lead to physical and emotional symptoms. Once these imbalances have been addressed, you may find that it’s easier to build confidence, surround yourself with positive people, speak more kindly to yourself, and more!

6. Observe your inner voice

Notice when your inner voice is being critical. We’re constantly speaking to ourselves, and for those with low self-esteem, that inner voice can say a lot of negative things! The first step towards changing those negative thoughts is to notice when they’re happening.

7. Reframe negative thoughts

When you’ve identified a critical thought, try reframing that negativity. If you catch yourself thinking, “I’m so bad at this, I’ll never succeed” try changing the thought to, “I’m still learning how to do this; I’ll get better if I keep trying.” Whenever your inner monologue suggests negative thoughts, try to reframe them in a more positive light. As you continue to switch these negatives to positives, you’ll notice the practice becoming more of a habit. Maybe you’ll even begin to think fewer negative thoughts in the first place!

8. Practice positive affirmations

When you consistently hear negative things about yourself (even if they’re coming from your own mind!) you’ll start to believe them. The opposite is true too! If you tell yourself “I am strong” on a daily basis, you’ll begin to believe in your own strength. And if you believe in your strength, you’ll act from a place of being a strong person. Practice saying positive affirmations to yourself on a daily basis, and see how they impact your self-esteem!

9. Release your Heart-Wall

The heart can develop a Heart-Wall®, which is a multi-layered wall of trapped emotional energy. The heart emits a magnetic field that interacts with the environment, and when there is a Heart-Wall, our emotions become the filter through which we interact with everything around us, including ourselves. Having a Heart-Wall can impact so many areas of our lives, including our ability to feel loved by ourselves and others. If this sounds familiar to you, you may have a Heart-Wall!

Speaking with a certified Emotion Code or Body Code™ practitioner will help you identify and release the trapped emotions around your heart. Once your Heart-Wall is cleared, you might be amazed at how much more clearly you see your worth, your abilities, and your beautiful, loveable, deeply worthy self.

10. Accept support

We can all use a little help sometimes. When suffering from low self-esteem, it can be helpful to seek out support from professionals. There are a wide array of natural healing practitioners that can help with emotional healing for improved self-esteem. Working with a life coach, a counselor or therapist, and energetic healers can help you work through the trapped emotions that may be holding you back from your full potential!

Accepting yourself is an essential part of emotional healing and building your self-esteem. Good luck on your journey toward self-love, and let us know if we can help you along the way!
