When starting an energy healing business, you’ll want to keep ethical business practices in mind. Sharing energy work with clients is an honor, but also a big responsibility! Discover Healing Practitioners hold themselves to the highest standards of ethical business practices. They lead from the heart, protect and prioritize their clients, maintain professional standards, and keep their businesses safe by following all local laws.

How to Run An Ethical Energy Healing Business

1. Obtain Education and Certification:

Before starting your business, obtain proper training and complete certification in your chosen energy healing modalities. Be sure to only offer sessions to clients in modalities that you have completed certification in. For example, if you are a Level 1: Emotion Code Practitioner, but haven’t enrolled in additional levels of certification, it would be unethical to offer Level 2: Body Code sessions to your clients.

Pursuing continued education ensures you have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide effective sessions to your clients. It can be a great way to get answers to questions that may come up as you work with different people.

2. Operate with Honesty:

Be truthful with clients in the way that you represent your training, experience, and abilities, as well as the benefits your energy work can and cannot deliver. This applies to the way that you market yourself as well. Do not make promises that you cannot keep – we know this work is powerful but we cannot guarantee specific outcomes, and it can be misleading to clients if we do so.

3. Prioritize Informed Consent

Before working with a client, make sure that they understand the nature of energy healing, potential benefits, and any risks or limitations associated with energy work. Allow your clients to make informed decisions about their sessions and their work with you. Getting informed consent in writing is a powerful way to protect your business legally, and make sure your clients have a complete understanding of your work. You can create an informed consent document, review it with each client, have them sign, and keep a copy for your records.

4. Respect Client’s Confidentiality

Clients often come to energy healers when experiencing physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual issues. They may trust you with vulnerable details about their lives and struggles. Respect each client’s confidentiality by maintaining strict privacy standards. Ensure that all client information remains confidential unless disclosure is required by law or with explicit consent from the client. This applies to social media as well – be sure to receive approval before sharing a client’s experience, even if you want to do so anonymously. Your clients should feel comfortable and safe sharing their stories with you!

Depending on laws in your country or state, there may be some instances where you could be required to share information about your client. This may include if you have a reasonable suspicion that the person is an imminent danger to themselves or others. Additionally, you may be summoned to testify in a court of law.

5. Practice with Professionalism:

While you will likely develop a caring relationship with your clients, it’s important to establish professional boundaries. Maintaining appropriate boundaries helps to ensure professionalism and prevent misunderstandings or conflicts. Even when working with loved ones, it can be helpful to communicate your role and the scope of services you can provide. Establish mutual understanding and agree on what is expected from both parties.

6. Empower and Trust Your Clients

Empower clients to take an active role in their healing journey by encouraging self-awareness, self-care practices, and personal responsibility for their well-being. Try not to center yourself on their healing journey – your role is to help them heal themselves. Respect their choices regarding their energy healing journey, and avoid pressuring them to continue working with you. Act in your client’s best interest, and trust that they know themselves best.

7. Scope of Practice

As an energy healing practitioner, you can help clients balance their bodies to support the release of trapped emotional energy, imbalances, and/or beliefs. Doing so often helps clients with many issues! However, energy healers should not diagnose medical conditions or offer sessions that are beyond their training. Be sure to stay within your scope of practice, and refer clients to other healthcare professionals when they need additional support. It’s also important to never advise your clients to start or stop taking medications.

8. Financial Transparency

As with any professional service, it’s important to communicate your fees up front and provide transparent billing practices. Ensure that clients understand the cost of services before beginning their session.

It can also be helpful to develop policies regarding scheduling appointments, re-scheduling, cancellations, late payments, and any other business policies. Make sure these policies are communicated to all of your clients. It can be helpful to have them available in writing for clients to refer to.

9. Duty of Care:

Do your best to help each client that comes to you, as long as you feel comfortable working with them. Offer your services regardless of differences such as appearance, socioeconomic status, or beliefs – remember that everyone deserves support and care.

If you need to end your professional relationship with a client for any reason, try to refer them to someone you respect and trust – whether that’s another energy healer or a licensed medical professional.

10. Follow Applicable Laws

Different locations may have specific regulations and laws in place that apply to your energy healing business. Research local laws and make sure that your business complies with them. Additionally, an ethical business maintains required business licenses, keeps records, and pays applicable taxes – these practices will keep your business safe and legal.

By following these guidelines, you can establish and maintain an ethical energy healing business! These guidelines will allow your business to thrive while prioritizing the well-being of your clients. Keep your business safe so that you can continue to share your gifts with the world.
