Crisis as Creator

Tony describes crisis as “messy” because it often holds hands with chaos, sadness, anger, and a multitude of other negative feelings and actions. This crisis can cause a meltdown, but Tony believes that it should be embraced, not avoided or stigmatized. Use the meltdown as the impetus to build yourself (and perhaps someone else) back up into a stronger and more abundant person.

Determining Your Needs

We all have basic physical needs: food, water, shelter, and oxygen. The psyche also has needs, and Tony Robbins has found that human beings have 6 basic psychological needs:

  • Certainty
  • Uncertainty/Variety
  • Significance
  • Love/Connection
  • Growth
  • Contribution

We all have these needs, but the real revelation is in the value you place on each one of them. As Tony explains, if Certainty is your #1 need, then you could have a difficult life because there is too much that you cannot control. If you have a primary need for Significance, it can be a great thing if you decide you are going to change the world for the better and strive toward that goal.

Those who value Variety the most are searching for fun, meaning, and experience, and are rarely let down. Growth and Contribution as valued needs also make us better people, and we all need Love and Connection.

Living Your Best Life

So, when asked, “How to live your best life,” adopt Tony Robbins’ tenet that “Life is about we, not me.” Try to become human-centric or spirit-centric in everything you do, every day you do it. By using the power of passion and positivity, you may soon see an avalanche of abundance.
