Tony Robbins has been called “the CEO Whisperer,” “the Mahatma of Motivation,” and the “Gentle Giant” because of his 6’7” presence softened by his kind demeanor. From US presidents to billionaire businesspeople, Olympic athletes to world leaders, and everyday people who just want to make a change and a difference, Tony Robbins has touched the lives of more than 50 million people around the globe. As an author, he has written several best-selling books, and recently wrote the foreword for the newly-expanded The Emotion Code™,  released May 7, 2019.

The Power of Passion

“I believe in energy. I believe in passion.” – Tony Robbins

Whether Tony is referring to abundance in finances, business success, physical performance, or contentment in life, his basic premise is to live with purpose. Always ask yourself, every day, with everything you do, “How can I make it better?”

Tony believes that the richest achievement you can reach is the experience of meaning. If your purpose is simply to make more money, you are always going to want to make more and more, never reaching an end. But if your purpose is to give your life meaning by being a positive influence on your community and the world, then that is how to live your best life.

Crisis as Creator

“Every problem is a gift – without problems we would not grow.” – Tony Robbins

All of us have the potential to embrace self-awareness and grow as a person, even during the good times. But it often takes a crisis to wake us up and force change or growth. Tony Robbins has had many challenges throughout his life that have helped make him the human being he is. However, he often says that when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1994,  he had a reawakening and realized that tomorrow is not a promise — so he had better make the most of each day.

handwriting crisis

Tony describes crisis as “messy” because it often holds hands with chaos, sadness, anger, and a multitude of other negative feelings and actions. This crisis can cause a meltdown, but Tony believes that it should be embraced, not avoided or stigmatized. Use the meltdown as the impetus to build yourself (and perhaps someone else) back up into a stronger and more abundant person.

Determining Your Needs

“It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.” – Tony Robbins

We all have basic physical needs: food, water, shelter, and oxygen. The psyche also has needs, and Tony Robbins has found that human beings have 6 basic psychological needs:

  • Certainty
  • Uncertainty/Variety
  • Significance
  • Love/Connection
  • Growth
  • Contribution

We all have these needs, but the real revelation is in the value you place on each one of them. As Tony explains, if Certainty is your #1 need, then you could have a difficult life because there is too much that you cannot control. If you have a primary need for Significance, it can be a great thing if you decide you are going to change the world for the better and strive toward that goal.

Those who value Variety the most are searching for fun, meaning, and experience, and are rarely let down. Growth and Contribution as valued needs also make us better people, and we all need Love and Connection.

Living Your Best Life

So, when asked, “How to live your best life,” adopt Tony Robbins’ tenet that “Life is about we, not me.” Try to become human-centric or spirit-centric in everything you do, every day you do it. By using the power of passion and positivity, you may soon see an avalanche of abundance.
