Setting healthy boundaries within your practice is an essential part of running an effective and sustainable energy healing business! Boundaries can help protect your own well-being while creating a safe, respectful space for your clients’ healing to unfold. Rather than creating distance, thoughtful boundaries support trust between you and your clients. When practitioners honor their energetic, emotional, and professional boundaries, they can show up fully present and aligned for each session without becoming burnt out or energetically depleted. Read on for practical tips to help you set boundaries in your energy healing business and maintain long-term success!

An Invitation to Take Care Of Yourself: Setting Session Boundaries

Protect your time, energy, and peace so that you can bring your highest vibration to each session!

  1. Time your sessions

Decide the amount of time you’d like to dedicate to each session. Perhaps you aim for 20 to 30-minute sessions. Many practitioners have found that this is a good range to stay within. While it is always okay to go over that limit a bit if you want to, having a time limit helps the subconscious stay on track and can keep you from stretching into an accidental marathon session! Communicate the timeline to clients ahead of time. A simple “your session will be 30-minutes long” gets everyone on the same page. If the session begins to run long, let your client know that you’ll make a note to return to this issue in your next session.

  1. Prioritize what will make the biggest difference

Set an intention to clear the imbalances, emotions, or beliefs that will yield the greatest results. By focusing on these bigger issues, many smaller issues will clear during the processing period as a result. This helps keep sessions both short and effective! Remember that you will likely never address everything in one session, so instead, let the subconscious lead you to whatever will make the biggest improvement for that person today.

  1. Attract, don’t chase

It’s not the practitioner’s job to heal everyone! Not everyone is ready, or receptive to energy healing, and it’s not your responsibility to chase them down and win them over. It can be energetically draining to try to convince someone who isn’t in alignment with this work. Instead, focus on attracting clients who are excited to work with you! You can always let people know that you are here for them when they are ready.

  1. You don’t have to work with everyone

If someone is not a great fit for you for any reason, give yourself permission to kindly refer them to another practitioner. If working with a particular person causes you stress, or they don’t respect your stated boundaries, you can and should protect your peace! If the person is a close friend or family member, you might say that you feel too close to them to be impartial and recommend that they work with someone they don’t know. If someone has an issue you feel you aren’t able to address, you might find someone with more expertise in that subject to refer them to. Feel free to send out a message on the Discover Healing Practitioner’s Circle Group to recruit someone. Our wonderful community is full of diverse practitioners, and there is likely to be someone out there who could be a better fit.

  1. We are not emergency medicine

Sometimes clients want help with dangerous or urgent issues, and in those cases, it’s important to encourage them to seek professional help. Let them know that you can offer energy healing support after they are safe, or that you can work on them by proxy as a supplement, while they are getting the care they need.

  1. Set office hours

It isn’t sustainable to be available at all hours of the day and night! Choose when you’d like to work with clients, and when you’ll be available to respond to messages or calls. Then, work to adhere to that schedule, and don’t check messages or squeeze clients in outside those times! It can be helpful to use a separate business number so that you don’t get calls while you’re not working. You could consider using WhatsApp, Google Voice, or Skype to communicate with clients off of your primary phone number.

  1. Use a scheduling calendar

A simple online calendar can make your business much more streamlined. You could even use this as your main webpage if you don’t want to create a separate one. The scheduling calendar might list:

  • Your office hours
  • When you’re available to book a new session
  • Length of the session
  • Types of energy healing you offer, and any other additional services you provide
  • How you’ll connect (via phone, email, Zoom, etc.)
  • Rates for your sessions
  • Other details you want to communicate prior to your sessions with them!

Plus, most scheduling calendar software will allow clients to pay for sessions when they book, which avoids uncomfortable payment conversations and sets a precedent that sessions are paid for before they occur.

Training clients to use the scheduling link for booking sessions instead of calling, texting, or emailing can make your business feel much more manageable. It allows you to focus your time and energy on sessions, rather than scheduling!

  1. Set expectations

We always want to help our clients, and energy healing sessions often make a difference right away! However, the expectation should not be that your session will immediately “fix” any issue. Set the expectation that as an energy healing practitioner, you can help clients balance their bodies to support the release of trapped emotional energy, imbalances, and/or beliefs. Doing so often helps clients with many issues! However, as an energy healer you’re not there to diagnose medical conditions or offer sessions that are beyond your training. Feel empowered to refer clients to other healthcare professionals when they need additional support. You can always use love, compassion, intention, and gratitude to lift the client up so they feel clearer and lighter – even if their symptoms have not yet changed.
