The answer to this question might seem obvious to many. However, what I have found in working with clients who are facing challenges in their life, this is not always the case.
Working with “energy” as a healing modality has taught me so much about the Universal Laws of Nature. The word universal means that the Law applies to everyone, all of the time, no matter where you live or who you are, whether you believe it or not.
Everyone is familiar with the “Law of Gravity”. We know it is universal because anyone who tries to jump from the roof of a very tall building will drop to the ground very quickly, and will hit it hard, know matter who, what, or where you are.
The Universal Laws of Energy work the same way. For example the Law of Cause and Effect is Universal and simply states that for every outcome or effect in our life there is a specific cause. So if I am struggling with something, and lets say it is a pain in my “right hip” (the effect), the question becomes what is causing the pain.
When a client comes to me seeking assistance in healing a challenge, such as a “pain in my right hip”, it is usually after they have exhausted all other avenues of healing and nothing has worked. In these cases the potential client has reached the limit of their tolerance to the pain and are willing to try something new. Just as a side note here, my goal as an Energy Practitioner is to be the first responder when the pain appears in all my clients…. that however is another story.
The client who shows up with the health/life challenge will be asked these questions:
• Tell me what is going on in your life right now that has you seeking this work? (Pain in right hip)
• If this “pain in your right hip” were removed how would your life change?
• Now imagine your life has changed, are you sure this is what you want? (Do you want to be pain free?)
• What are you willing to do to get what you want?
Answers to the above questions are very important “keys” to the healing process.
As a client becomes focused on the issue with full presence there is so much rich information that can be used to uncover underlying contributors to the pain they are experiencing.
The first question will uncover information about how the pain appeared, how long they have had the pain, how it has limited and affected their life, and all that they have done to try to fix it. The client is very present and fully conscious of what this pain is doing and has done in their life up to this point.
The second question allows the client to reflect on the “vision” of their life without the pain. They can imagine all of the things that they will be able to do that they couldn’t do with the pain, e.g., sleep through the night, run a 5K race, walk the dog, play with their children, etc.
The third question is the one that sometimes “stalls” the process. The client will automatically jump to the conclusion that yes I want to be pain free, however, some will ponder, “if I am pain free who am I without the pain.” It may seem like a strange thought. However, you would be amazed at how this impacts many people when they are working through health/life challenges.
The fourth question is one that indicates how committed and willing the client is to the healing process. Most of us fall into the category of wanting instant gratification. It is like this voice in our head is saying “I want what I want NOW” and if it doesn’t happen we will give up or give in to something else.
I would like to share a story that will illustrate what I am saying.
I was working with a 55 your old woman who was suffering with anxiety. She came to me after years of seeking medical attention and other alternative therapies. She had heard about The Emotion and The Body Code and felt she was open to try this work. We began the process and she provided me with a list of her challenges. Some were “medically diagnosed” conditions e.g., fibromyalgia, neuro-dermatitis, anxiety. Others were chronic pains or conditions that she had been struggling with for years, e.g. digestive issues, teeth and gum pain, overwhelming sadness, relationship issues, etc.
Following several sessions we had made some headway on some of her conditions. We had released her Heart-Wall and moved through different emotional blockages that brought definite improvement and increased energy in her life. She shared that her pain levels relating to her digestive issues had basically cleared up and her teeth and gum pain had been remedied. She even felt less anxious. Overall we were celebrating many successes, however, there was an underlying belief that no matter how much we discussed or worked on some of her challenges, she was not willing to release the energy to heal them.
The belief she was holding on to was that if she let go of all of her “ailments”, she wouldn’t’ be the same person and she wasn’t sure she wanted to find out who that person would be. Her conditions and challenges became what we called her “story”. The story was her reality. The daily focus on the “sadness” of her life and the illnesses defined her. The story had become such a habit that no amount of talk or work would change it until she decided she was ready to change it. So the question goes back to: “Do you want to be healthy?”. In this case, the answer become “no….not yet.”
This case challenged me in every way imaginable. I had a vision of this client in harmony and balance in her life. However, it became very clear to me it was not about my vision for her that mattered it was her “vision” or want for herself that would make the difference. In this case she did not want “100%” health, she went as far as she was ready to go and that is what she believed she wanted .
The Law of Cause and Effect taught me as a Practitioner that I am a “tool” in the process of working with others. When I work with the energy of non-attachment and non-judgment I can facilitate the process for anyone who is willing to explore the effects of their challenges knowing that the causes will appear when they are ready and willing to be “healthy”. When the “cause” appears the correction can be made and the healing of the body is activated.
Tremendously helpful and insightful article, and timely as I have a similar case on going. I have been asking for help with how to approach this, look at it differently and then your article appeared. Thanks so much for this new perspective. Blessings.
Thanks for the insight. It explains so well the experience of not only working with others who don’t have a vision of their lives being any other way…. but also has brought to light the importance of envisioning my own life as it could be. The need to not just be willing to let go of the past, but to have a clear vision of how I want my life story to read from this point onward. What my new identity will look and feel like.
Thank You and God Bless
I think it is always important to have this in mind with Chronic illness clients and explore this openly if progress isn’t made, slows markedly or stops. I imagine some will take a while to consciously own that in fact they aren’t yet ready to lose that defective identity. I offered to work with two different people just this past week who were lamenting their pain. Sadly, both declined the opportunity and were quite forthright with their reason – I’ve had this for years. It’s alright.
Thank you for sharing that! I agree, it is alright!!! Blessings Sharon
Excellent post. I especially appreciate your observation of “there was an underlying belief that no matter how much we discussed or worked on some of her challenges, she was not willing to release the energy to heal them.” Something to think about when we hit “brick walls” with clients.
Thank you and yes this realization for me has created an ease and gentleness to the process of supporting my clients without judgment or attachment to outcome. Spirit will always guide them to the place of healing so i just get out of the way! Blessings Sharon
That was a very insightful and thought provoking article, thank you.
I am so pleased you found it relevant! Blessings Sharon
