Have you ever felt heavy, drained, or stuck, without quite knowing why? Maybe a stressful week left you running on empty, or time with a certain person leaves you feeling exhausted. These are often signs that your energy needs a little care. The good news is that you don’t have to withdraw from the world to protect yourself from negative energy. By learning how to raise your vibration, you can feel lighter, more balanced, and more like yourself, while still showing up for the people you love.

In this article, learn what it really means to raise your vibration, how trapped emotions can weigh down your energy, practical ways to protect your energy around others, and a simple 5-minute reset you can use anytime you need it.

What Does It Mean to Raise Your Vibration?

Everything in the universe is made of energy, including you. Your body, your thoughts, and even your emotions all carry their own energy and have their own vibration. When you feel joyful, peaceful, or loved, your energy is light and expansive. When you feel stressed, resentful, or afraid, it can feel heavy. Like attracts like, so when you vibrate at the frequency of stress, for example, you’ll be likely to attract more of that same vibration.

“Raising your vibration” simply means shifting your energy toward that lighter, more positive state. It isn’t about forcing yourself to be happy all the time or ignoring difficult feelings. Instead, it’s about clearing away what weighs you down and making room for more peace, clarity, and joy.

Dr. Bradley Nelson, creator of The Emotion Code®, teaches that the energy we carry can affect how we feel emotionally and physically. When you take steps to care for your energy, you may find that life feels a little easier, your relationships feel more connected, and you have more to give to the people and things you love.

Identify Excess Negative Energy

Sometimes we are trying so hard to be there for others, we lose sight of our own needs and ignore warning signs that negative energy is diminishing our overall energetic vibration. Some signs that it is time to raise your vibration and rid yourself of negative energy are:

  • Mood swings
  • Apathy
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of concentration
  • Anxiety
  • Restlessness
  • Physical pain like headaches, stomach aches, even chest pains

How Trapped Emotions Can Lower Your Vibration

We all go through difficult experiences, like a painful breakup, a stressful job, a loss, or hurtful conversations. Most of the time, we experience those emotions and then try to move on. But sometimes an emotion isn’t fully processed. When that happens, its energy can become “trapped” in the body.

These trapped emotions carry their own vibration, and they may continue to influence you long after the original experience has passed. You might notice that you react more strongly than you’d expect in certain situations, feel stuck in the same patterns, or carry a heaviness you can’t quite explain. Some people even notice physical discomfort that may be connected to trapped emotions.

Over time, the subconscious mind may also use trapped emotions to build a protective “wall” around the heart, called a Heart-Wall®. While it’s meant to protect you from getting hurt, a Heart-Wall can make it harder to give and receive love, feel connected to others, and experience joy.

The good news is that trapped emotions and the Heart-Wall can be released. With The Emotion Code, you can identify specific trapped emotions and let them go, often in just a few minutes. Many people describe feeling lighter, calmer, and more like themselves afterward.

How To Raise Your Vibrational Energy

The beauty of raising your energy vibration is that the best remedies are all about kindness and simplicity. To raise your vibration and reduce negative energy, you can:

  • Eat healthy, live whole foods. The shorter the time from tree to tasting, from ground to gourmet, the more positive energy you will receive.
  • Control what is around you. Stay away from chronically toxic people and situations. Stay off of negative social media.
  • Eliminate physical and spiritual clutter. Clean lines and open spaces in your living area can provide calmness and serenity. Purge yourself of emotional clutter like trapped emotions.
  • Literally “ground” yourself. This concept is also known as “earthing.” You know that great feeling you have after a day at the beach? That is about more than a day of relaxation. Standing or walking in bare feet in grass, sand, or even on a concrete surface that is immediately above the soil can rid your body of ever-so-damaging negative energy.
  • Embrace joy. As they say, “Laughter is the best medicine.” Share hugs and smiles.Keep negative energy at bay with positive thoughts and acts.
  • Practice gratitude. Even when you’re experiencing a hard time, there’s a lot to be grateful for. The more you focus on the positives that exist, the better you’ll feel.
  • Slow down and enjoy the little things. Humans have adopted the rat race as a way of life, and it need not be that way. There is nothing and no one more important than YOU. Make sure you have sufficient alone time and use it to enjoy what makes you content. A walk in the woods, smelling fresh-cut grass, watching children play, or a day of reading. The possibilities are endless.

How to Protect Your Energy Around Others

Have you ever left a conversation feeling drained, irritable, or anxious, even though you felt fine beforehand? The people around us can have a powerful influence on our energy, especially if you’re an empath or naturally sensitive to energy.

Protecting your energy doesn’t mean shutting people out. Think of your energetic boundaries like the locks on your home. Locks don’t mean you never let anyone in! But they give you a choice. You can keep the door secure until you feel safe, then open it when you are ready to be with others. You can choose who you allow inside.

Healthy boundaries work the same way. They help you care for yourself so you can keep showing up for the people you love. Here are a few ways to start:

  • Notice how you feel. Pay attention to your energy before and after spending time with someone. Do you feel uplifted or depleted? This awareness is the first step toward healthier boundaries.
  • Set kind, clear boundaries. It’s okay to say no, end a conversation early, or limit time with people who consistently leave you feeling drained. Boundaries are a form of self-respect, not selfishness.
  • Remember what’s yours. When someone around you is upset, it’s natural to feel it too. Remind yourself that you can offer compassion without taking on their emotions as your own.
  • Take breaks. Step outside, take a few deep breaths, and reset by yourself. Especially during long or emotional days, this can create a dramatic shift in your energy.
  • Release what you’ve picked up. If you notice lingering feelings after a difficult interaction, take a few minutes to check in with yourself. The Emotion Code can help you identify and release emotions that may be weighing on you.
  • Surround yourself with uplifting people. Make time for friends and family who leave you feeling supported, inspired, and loved.

Signs Your Vibration Is Rising

As you clear away negative vibes and take care of your energy, you may start to notice positive changes! Here are a few signs your vibration may be rising:

  • You feel lighter, calmer, and more at peace
  • Situations that used to upset you don’t bother you as much
  • You have more patience with yourself and others
  • You feel more grateful for the little things
  • Your sleep and energy levels improve
  • You’re drawn to healthier habits, people, and environments
  • You feel more creative, inspired, or hopeful about the future
  • Your relationships feel more open and connected
  • You trust your intuition more easily

Remember, raising your vibration isn’t about being perfect or feeling positive every moment. Hard days will still happen. But you may begin to feel more balanced even when you are going through challenging times.

Try This: A 5-Minute Vibration Reset

When you’re feeling drained, stressed, or stuck, this simple practice can help you reset your energy in just a few minutes.

1. Pause and breathe. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and take several slow, deep breaths. Let your shoulders relax, and your body settle.

2. Check in with yourself. Ask, “What am I feeling right now?” Try to name the emotion without judging it. Is it frustration, sadness, worry, or something else?

3. Release what’s weighing on you. If you know The Emotion Code, use muscle testing and the Emotion Code Chart to identify a trapped emotion and release it. If you’re new to energy healing, simply acknowledge the feeling and imagine yourself setting it down, like putting down a heavy bag.

4. Shift your focus to gratitude. Think of three things you’re grateful for right now. They can be as simple as your breath, the sunshine outside, a loved one… anything that comes to mind!

5. Set an intention. Finish by choosing how you’d like to feel for the rest of your day, such as “I choose to feel peace” or “I choose to feel open and kind.” Take one more deep breath and carry that intention with you.

Try this reset whenever you need it, whether it’s first thing in the morning, after a tough conversation, or before bed.

A life of contentment is all about personal power and choices. If you find yourself spending all of your time trying to figure out how to get rid of negative energy, you need to make some changes in your life. If you are caught in a downward spiral of negative thoughts, observe your surroundings and activities and figure out what changes need to be made to raise your vibration. Energetic boundaries are not selfish; they are necessary!

Everything is energy, so the more positive your energy is, the better you will feel.
